FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where can I donate?

I have created a way to accept donations to grow the project, use the WWII Veterans Portrait Series Go Fund Me.

Where are you located?

I live in the San Diego area but have traveled to many locations to interview and photograph Veterans.

How Long is an Appointment?

Appointments usually last an hour. But please free up time for Mickey to set up lights and cameras, hold the interview, and take some still photographers for in the project.

Do you accept reservations?

Yes is the simple answer to the question. Each appointment is set up as an individual session. Group sessions have been set up when I visited a senior living facility or many of the California Veterans Homes.

Born May 12th, 1931, Richard M. Jones served in the U.S. Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer from 1951 to 1960 on active duty and from 60-81 in the reserves. Richard attended the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, from 51 - 55. Ens Jones reported to his first ship, the USS Hamner (DD-718), a Gearing-class destroyer where he served from 55 - 58 as an Engineer. Richard eventually served as the Chief Engineer and received a battle E for engineering excellence, a proud memory of his days onboard. Richard made 1 Western Pacific Deployment (WESTPAC) every year on the USS Hamner and qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer. Richard remembers his tin can moved around at sea a lot, and he never got over sea motion 100%. Richard then transferred to the USS Tulare (AKA-112), a Tulare-class attack cargo ship, where he served as the Ships Navigator from 58-60. Richard and the Tulare would embark marine forces and their gear to deploy them overseas. In 1960 Richard transferred to Naval Training Center (NTC) Great Lakes, IL, working at Recruit Training Command and a technical Training Officer supervising Damage control school, the rifle range, and other technical schools conducted by the recruits. After active duty, CDR Jones reported to the reserves continuing to serve until 1981.
