Where are you located?

I live in the San Diego area but have traveled to many locations to interview and photograph Veterans.


How Long is an Appointment?

Appointments usually last an hour. But please free up time for Mickey to set up lights and cameras, hold the interview, and take some still photographers for in the project.

Do you accept reservations?

Yes is the simple answer to the question. Each appointment is set up as an individual session. Group sessions have been set up when I visited a senior living facility or many of the California Veterans Homes.

US Navy RDSN Korean War John Russo was born on November 16th, 1932, and grew up in Manhattan, NY. John volunteered to serve in the US Navy at 17 years old and enlisted on February 13th, 1950. He attended Basic Training at Great Lakes Recruit Training Center, IL. Followed by four months of advanced training at the Naval Training Center Great Lakes to attend Radarman’s School. Here he learned radar principles and how to operate the highly accurate monopulse tracking radar designated the AN/FPS-16. John learned to read the screen and interpret the signals. John reported to his first duty assignment in Kodiak, Alaska, onboard the USS Burton Island (AGB-1) a United States Navy Wind-class icebreaker. She made multiple deployments with John, where her duties varied, including supply activities, helicopter reconnaissance of ice flows, scientific surveys, underwater demolition surveys, and convoy exercises. John got sick and was hospitalized for six months, but when he was feeling better, he was assigned to the USS Molala (AT-106) a US Navy Abnaki-class tugboat. The Molala operated from the Marshall Islands, she conducted diving and towing operations in Korean waters. RDSN John Russo ended his enlistment on 14 September 1953 at the end of his obligated service. John returned to Civilian life in West Chester, New York, and worked in the insurance industry for most of his days.
