I have created a way to accept donations to grow the project, use the WWII Veterans Portrait Series Go Fund Me.

Where are you located?

I live in the San Diego area but have traveled to many locations to interview and photograph Veterans.

How Long is an Appointment?

Appointments usually last an hour. But please free up time for Mickey to set up lights and cameras, hold the interview, and take some still photographers for in the project.

Do you accept reservations?

Yes is the simple answer to the question. Each appointment is set up as an individual session. Group sessions have been set up when I visited a senior living facility or many of the California Veterans Homes.

U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Korean War Lois Sweeney was born in Santa Rosa, California, on October 8, 1931. She attended Santa Rosa High School and tested out before graduation, passing her GED. After high school, she decided to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps. Only 19, she worked at a title company for a few months but longed for excitement, which influenced her decision. She left home to attend boot camp, riding in a train car with a group of ladies heading across the states. She chose the Marine Corps because it was exciting and different. Lois attended Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, in January 1951. After graduating from boot camp, she was assigned to headquarters and assigned to office work as a clerk typist with a military occupational specialty of MOS-405. This field includes clerical and administrative functions such as human resources administration, postal service, and general administration. Qualifications for this field included typing and clerical skills along with communication abilities. It was not the exciting work she hoped for, but she performed her duties well. Lois was reassigned to work at the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in Havelock, North Carolina, where she was assigned to headquarters. She worked there for two and a half years, and during that time, she was promoted through the ranks to Staff Sergeant. She married a fellow servicemember and, per protocol back in those days, was asked to leave the Corps. She was honorably discharged from the Corps on July 6, 1953. She stayed home as a new housewife and mother to her husband’s children. She moved to Redding, California, and became active in the community. She also trained and got her pilot's license and was an active Shasta County Flying Posse member. Lois has one daughter, Lisa. She was a housewife and mother for many years but wanted more excitement in her life and a professional career. She received a Law Enforcement Certificate from her Junior College and then graduated from the police academy in Chico, California. She worked for the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office for over 20 years before retiring in 1987. Lois was very active and enjoyed the Marine Corps League in the Redding, CA Chapter.
