FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where can I donate?

I have created a way to accept donations to grow the project, use the WWII Veterans Portrait Series Go Fund Me.

Where are you located?

I live in the San Diego area but have traveled to many locations to interview and photograph Veterans.

How Long is an Appointment?

Appointments usually last an hour. But please free up time for Mickey to set up lights and cameras, hold the interview, and take some still photographers for in the project.

Do you accept reservations?

Yes is the simple answer to the question. Each appointment is set up as an individual session. Group sessions have been set up when I visited a senior living facility or many of the California Veterans Homes.

Born Aug 9th, 1942, Robert Walden joined the U.S. Army to receive a guaranteed school rather than being drafted. He selected the Army on his Marine uncle's suggestion to receive that school and become a cook. Robert served for three years of active duty, from 1962-1965, and three years inactive reserve as an Army cook and rose to become a Specialist SPC E-4. Robert attended Bootcamp and Cook School at Fort Ord, Army Base, just outside Monterey bay. Cooks school and Bootcamp were both six weeks, and Robert was assigned the MOS 92G after graduation.  Robert served during the Vietnam War, stationed in Korea at a post in Sokcho Ree on the East coast of South Korea. Robert arrived in Korea via the U.S. Navy's troopship, USS General William Mitchell (AP-114), stating he did not care for the DOD ocean cruise ship. Fort, Sokcho Ree was a small support base at the Army Security Association. They were primarily a radio operations listening post. Robert, the only active-duty cook, and his Civilian staff feed over 30 base personnel three meals a day for a year. Robert enjoyed keeping the overnight watch crew in donuts and coffee while they stood the watch. After his 13 months in the country, Robert reported south to Busan (the Navy port) to be shipped home on the troopship, USS General M. M. Patrick (AP-150).
