FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where can I donate?

I have created a way to accept donations to grow the project, use the WWII Veterans Portrait Series Go Fund Me.

Where are you located?

I live in the San Diego area but have traveled to many locations to interview and photograph Veterans.

How Long is an Appointment?

Appointments usually last an hour. But please free up time for Mickey to set up lights and cameras, hold the interview, and take some still photographers for in the project.

Do you accept reservations?

Yes is the simple answer to the question. Each appointment is set up as an individual session. Group sessions have been set up when I visited a senior living facility or many of the California Veterans Homes.

US Marine Corps CPL World War 2 Robert “Bob” Meier served on active duty with the US Marine Corps for three years from Nov 19th, 1942 - Dec 8th, 1945.   The 22nd Marine Regiment was commissioned on June 1, 1942, at Camp Elliot in San Diego, California.  Bob and the Regiment went to Maui, Hawaii, and Wallis Island for amphibious warfare training before seeing combat in February 1944.  Bob was a gunner onboard a M4 Sherman Tank.  Bob shot the big 75mm gun, the main armament of a Sherman tank.  Bob and his crew of 5 included the commander, gunner, loader, driver, and assistant driver/bow gunner.  Bob saw combat “in the shooting war,” as he put it, fighting in the amphibious assault at the Battle of Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands, February 17-22, 1944, where he and the 22nd received the Navy Unit Commendation.  Bob and the 22nd liberated Engebi Island and its airfield from the Japanese in five days. They then secured Parry Island as well as the remainder of the atoll.  After some rest and training at Guadalcanal, they advanced to the Mariana Islands and the Battle of Guam in July. Combat operations ended after they secured Orote Peninsula and the remainder of the island in late August, again receiving the Navy Unit Commendation, Bob's second.  Bob was overseas for over 16 months when the 22nd returned to Guadalcanal and disbanded. Bob served as a guard at the Navy brig in Chicago, Illinois, hoping to finish his service close to home. He only served there for three weeks before deciding to head back overseas.  Bob finished his active duty while stationed in Hawaii. Bob is a proud US Marine, and like all Marines, Bob will tell you. “Once a Marine, always a Marine.” Semper Fidelis - Always Faithful.
