FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where can I donate?

I have created a way to accept donations to grow the project, use the WWII Veterans Portrait Series Go Fund Me.

Where are you located?

I live in the San Diego area but have traveled to many locations to interview and photograph Veterans.

How Long is an Appointment?

Appointments usually last an hour. But please free up time for Mickey to set up lights and cameras, hold the interview, and take some still photographers for in the project.

Do you accept reservations?

Yes is the simple answer to the question. Each appointment is set up as an individual session. Group sessions have been set up when I visited a senior living facility or many of the California Veterans Homes.

US Navy LTJG World War 2 Richard H. Frost, aka “Dick,” served in the US Navy, receiving his commission after college.  Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Richard enlisted while attending classes as a physics major at Hobart and William Smith College.  He chose to participate in the new V-12 program at Columbia University.  This accelerated program allowed him to graduate with a BA and as a midshipman during his third year.  Richard was commissioned as an Ensign. and graduated from the midshipmen program and chose to serve with the destroyer group training in Virginia. Dick was assigned as an officer aboard the USS Ammen (DD-527), a Fletcher-Class destroyer, the second ship named for Rear Admiral Daniel Ammen.  Dick joined the ship while it was in port at the Ulithi Atoll in the Pacific.   The USS Ammen conducted combat operations on Attu Island, New Guinea, the Philippine Islands, and Okinawa Island, Japan.  The ship also participated in operations at the Ryukyu Islands, Ulithi (Caroline Islands), Japan, and in the Pacific Theater, where they served on various radar stations, providing cover against the Japanese kamikaze attacks.  This duty was arduous and stressful, as they were constantly under threat of kamikaze attacks.  They stood at these stations for over two months of patrol, hunting, and being hunted.  The USS Ammen was attacked many times over these months and suffered casualties. The USS Ammen and Richard served with the occupational forces in Nagasaki and Sasebo, Japan, until they were relived in November to return to their home port of San Diego and later transferred to Charleston, SC, for deactivation, where most of the crew, including Richard, were deactivated and returned to their home of record. Richard took his Skills in Crisis Management in life at war and authored a book, “The Crisis Strikes,” Crisis Solutions for Workplace. Dick rose to the grade of Ltj.g. before the end of his honorable Naval service.
