FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where can I donate?

I have created a way to accept donations to grow the project, use the WWII Veterans Portrait Series Go Fund Me.

Where are you located?

I live in the San Diego area but have traveled to many locations to interview and photograph Veterans.

How Long is an Appointment?

Appointments usually last an hour. But please free up time for Mickey to set up lights and cameras, hold the interview, and take some still photographers for in the project.

Do you accept reservations?

Yes is the simple answer to the question. Each appointment is set up as an individual session. Group sessions have been set up when I visited a senior living facility or many of the California Veterans Homes.

US Army Technical Sergeant T/5 World War II Estelle Strichartz served as a Technician Fifth Grade, T/5 in World War II in the US Army, Women's Army Corps or “WAC." She served as a Topographical Draftsman in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Estelle and ladies like her were later called “Millie the Mappers.” With the beginning of the war in Europe, the U.S. realized that the existing European maps were inadequate for tactical purposes or use by artillery units since existing map grids were inconsistent and did not match up between countries. The Engineer Topographic Battalion's wartime mission was the development of accurate 4-color topographic maps created through timely survey work, drafting, printing, and distributing military maps as required by the Allied Armed Forces of the United States. Estelle attended the Army Specialized Training Program in Aberdeen, Maryland, gaining experience in topographical survey and mapping processes, including photo mapping and reproduction techniques. Her overseas service in the Pacific started in Australia, mobilizing until they got involved in the Liberation of the Philippine Islands. Her workload was focused on deciphering captured enemy maps and creating topographical combat map updates for Allied forces. Estelle, in her portrait, is 103 years old and is sharing a photo of her in Australia with two Koala bears she visited while on liberty. Estelle was awarded the American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with one bronze service star, a Good Conduct Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Campaign Medal with two overseas service bars. Tech sergeant Strichartz served for two years & two months from 28 Sep 43 until 27 Dec 1945 and was demobilized along with most of the enlisted who volunteered during World War II.
