FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where can I donate?

I have created a way to accept donations to grow the project, use the WWII Veterans Portrait Series Go Fund Me.

Where are you located?

I live in the San Diego area but have traveled to many locations to interview and photograph Veterans.

How Long is an Appointment?

Appointments usually last an hour. But please free up time for Mickey to set up lights and cameras, hold the interview, and take some still photographers for in the project.

Do you accept reservations?

Yes is the simple answer to the question. Each appointment is set up as an individual session. Group sessions have been set up when I visited a senior living facility or many of the California Veterans Homes.

US Army PFC World War 2 James Bailey was born on August 12th, 1924, in Erie, Pennsylvania, and was orphaned at age Five. James volunteered to serve in the US Army in the Infantry after graduating High School. James served in Europe from 1943 to 1945, mainly in France as a replacement trooper. These men backfired into the units that served in the initial D-Day invasion. He remembered loading up and riding to the beach on a small craft LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel) with the rest of his unit. He and his unit were replacement troops that landed after the D-day invasion of France. He was assigned to work with his unit's chemical warfare system. He was assigned to monitor the chemical storage. During his time in France, he was injured and lost his left leg when he stepped on a land mine in February of 1945. He was evacuated to an aid station and later to a field hospital, where he was awarded his Purple Heart. James was shipped back to the United States and rehabbed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland until he was fit for release from service. After his rehabilitation, which lasted just over 14 months and included training to use a prosthetic, James was honorably discharged from the Army. James was married to Mrs. Shirley Bailey, and they had four children together. They were prominent community members who created the Rossmoor Community Paper Drive. 2011, James was recognized as the Citizen of the Year for Rossmoor, Los Alamitos.
